Care & Condition Guide
Each piece at REVIVE ARCHIVE has lived a life before arriving in your hands. This guide explains how we assess condition, how to understand our grading, and how to care for archive and pre‑loved garments with longevity in mind.
Condition Grading
To ensure transparency, every item is graded using the following scale:
Excellent
Pieces in exceptional condition with minimal signs of wear. Often stored carefully or worn only a few times.
Very Good
Light wear consistent with age. Any small imperfections will be noted and photographed.
Good
Visible signs of wear that do not affect overall integrity. These pieces often hold strong archival value despite their age.
Well‑Loved
Pronounced wear or patina that adds character. Ideal for collectors comfortable with age and individuality.
Every condition note is included so you know exactly what to expect.
Understanding Archive Pieces
Archive fashion often uses unique fabrics, artisanal techniques, and experimental construction. With time, natural wear can appear—and is expected.
This may include:
- softening or stretching of natural fibers
- light fading on delicate dyes
- patina on hardware
- subtle changes due to age or storage
These characteristics contribute to the authenticity and charm of archive garments.
Care Recommendations
1. Storage
- Store garments away from direct sunlight.
- Use padded or wide hangers for delicate or structured pieces.
- For knits, store folded to prevent stretching.
2. Cleaning
- Dry clean only when necessary, preferably with specialists experienced in designer or vintage textiles.
- Spot‑clean gently with a soft cloth when possible.
- Avoid harsh chemicals or home dry‑cleaning kits.
3. Handling Knitwear & Delicate Fabrics
- Handle gently to avoid pulls.
- Keep away from jewelry or sharp hardware that can catch.
- Air out after wear rather than frequent cleaning.
4. Leather & Hardware
- Condition leather sparingly with high‑quality products.
- Avoid moisture exposure.
- For vintage metal hardware, expect natural aging and patina.
